My favorite thing about Fall...

...is canning with my mom! When I hear that the Utah fruit is coming, I call mom and ask her to come help me can my pears! She loves canning. I grew up on canned food! My dad had the most beautiful garden! We all had our section to help weed and water. We could not wait for the vegetables to appear. My favorite was the peas. I would sneak out to the garden and eat them until I got caught. If we ate them all while in the garden, there was nothing left to can. We canned beats, rhubarb, corn, beans, tomatoes - both juice and chunked, raspberries, peaches, pears, apricots and more.

I love canning. It is therapeutic for me and now that mom comes to help me it is a great time to talk with her and catch up. It triggers memories from her canning with her mom growing up and I love to hear those stories. My kids are starting to want to help! I know that it is not any cheaper to can but the time spent and memories made - and the better taste - is well worth it! Mom thinks they look so pretty on the shelf! I agree!

We got 48 quarts done and I am starting my last box with hopes to get 16 more. Our family loves pears. Thanks mom for coming! We love your visits.
